Macroom Bridge, Co. Cork

Contiguous Flight Auger Piling for Bridge Abutments. Ground Anchors into existing Bridge.

A new pedestrian bridge under construction in Macroom Co. Cork. The bridge abutments are supported on CFA piles on either side of the river.

This project provided a challenge to carry out the works in a very busy road and river with higher than expected water levels.
Two CFA rigs were used on site, a 14T rig tracked across the river to install piles on the eastern bank where piles were taken into rock at approximately 7m deep.

A larger 45T rig was required on the western side as pile depths were 18m. One static test was carried out on a working pile on the western side.

Ground anchors installed across the bridge to specific angles and lengths. All anchors were proof load tested to verify capacity.

The mini rig on scaffolding was chosen as it allowed the traffic on the bridge to remain unaffected by the works. The anchors were installed in 3m sections.
